PDSI was founded in 1996 by Greg Smith of the third generation, family-owned Flowerwood Nurseries based in Loxley, Alabama. Seeing a need for an industry resource that could manage new plant introductions resulting from the advances being made by propagators throughout the world. Of particular interest were the plants with unique performance attributes
that could be patented, branded and successfully introduced to the consumer market.
Today, PDSI has a documented track record of success, having introduced more than 50 new plant varieties into the marketplace including the revolutionary Encore Azalea®, PDSI’s flagship plant brand.
